Shout -out!!! The Stretch Festival in Mandurah has begun and next Saturday night (7th May) promises to be a great evening... Garments from around Australia & overseas will be featured in the Common Threads Wearable Art Showcase, presented by Act-Belong-Commit at MPAC!!! This has become one of Perth's premier events in the Arts and is a "must see"... so if you are in WA get your tickets and come along... it just keeps getting better & better each year!!!! Click here for tickets or here for more information about the Showcase...
A few of the designers have used Powertex in their pieces including Rosie Chalken's "Pillar of Salt" - which is an amazing piece created with recycled cardboard & hundreds of toilet rolls formed into the most beautiful paper tulle; Deb Hiller & Cathie Creswell's "Cog-nitive Beauty" - with a Steam-punk feel and Ashley Bowley's (aka me!) "Luminous" which is very linear and all about light & shadows dancing on the ground... Julie Smith also used Powerprint for the image transfers on her gorgeous garment "Hope Lights the Way". There will also be a Designers Corner in the Foyer of MPAC for the weekend of 7th-8th May 10am-4pm where you will be able to meet some of the artists. I will be there with my wearable art garment from 2014 and will be demonstrating some of the techniques used in my 2016 entry… as well as a few other textural explorations with Powertex... so if you're curious or need a bit of inspiration... come down & have a chat!!! I hope to see you there! Below is a pic of my garment "Luminous"... (photographed by Travis Hayto)
