Deborah Schultz - Powertex Distributer & Trainer QLD

Picture
I have always loved art, colour and the opportunity to be creative and was blessed to have been raised in a family of like minded women.  I remember sitting on my grandmother’s knee at 3, learning to sew my first doll on her treddle sewing machine and my passion for creating‘things’ started there.  I went on to do cross stitching, knitting, beaded jewellery, quilting, painting, scrapbooking  - you name it and I think I have tried it.  I continue to be amazed at how the simplest of concepts or ideas can turn into the most wonderful pieces of artwork. I have a Cert IV Workplace Training and Assessment, am a Qualified Mentor and have an International Diploma of Communications among other qualifications.

After 12 years as a paramedic I was looking for something new to occupy my mind and refocus on the positive things life has to offer.  I was so excited to discover Powertex quite by accident when I was maxing out my credit card at the local bead shop.  Tom and Pat were teaching a Powertex lesson on the verandah and I remember sitting mesmerized watching how the 3D figures were created so easily.  They were amazing.  I was so drawn in by the lesson that I signed up for the next  one knowing that one class wasn’t going to be enough.  I went on to complete the Trainer’s course over the next couple of months and am now a Certified instructor and love it.

I love how each piece comes to life - the folds in the fabric, each strand of hair and at times I feel like the sculptures dictate their design and develop their own personalities.  My particular favourite is creating the wall hangings and I am now working with Stoneart to create dragonflies and butterflies (another love) and am always exciting about discovering new ideas and techniques.

As a sufferer of allergies I am impressed that there are no fumes I can work inside if I need to but love when we do classes outside in the carport.  It is an easy medium to work with and the laughter is always good for all involved in the classes.

Powertex is environmentally friendly, weather proof and offers a great opportunity to recycle household items and craft materials.

I am very excited to be the new Qld Distributor of Powertex and look forward to meeting many new faces at classes both workshops and training new instructors. I am currently running courses the last weekend of each month.
